How to

The technique.

  1. 01

    Attach a single handle to a low cable pulley.

  2. 02

    Stand sideways to the machine, grasping the handle with the far hand.

  3. 03

    Keep a slight bend in your elbow and maintain a neutral spine.

  4. 04

    Raise the handle out to the side until your arm is parallel to the floor.

  5. 05

    Focus on leading with your elbow and feeling the contraction in your side deltoid.

Common mistakes

What goes wrong.

  • ×Using too much weight, leading to swinging and momentum.
  • ×Shrugging shoulders up to your ears, engaging traps instead of delts.
  • ×Raising the handle too high, reducing tension on the side delts.
  • ×Bending elbow excessively, reducing isolation.
  • ×Rushing the eccentric phase, losing tension and control.
